Just to add: If I connect the i2c peripheral, but disconnrct the SDA line then the system boots,,,

So something about the state of SDA is managing to hold up the boot sequence...??

Possible workaround: If it possible to delay the initialising of the i2c until the system has booted, then enable ic2 with the custom parameters from the command line?
