During my research I stumbled across this post:

The user claimed that the GND pin of a USB-C port must be connected to TP1 on the Pico pinout, I just wanted to confirm this was accurate -
The datasheet states that TP1 is a close coupled ground for differential USB signals and can be used to "access the USB signals instead of using the micro-USB port", but I can't anything to confirm if a different ground pin can be used.
