General discussion • Re: Raspberry Pi 5 discussion thread

As with most everything computers, people have very different ideas what everything means. For some a Pi is a desktop replacement that can be used for browsing the web; for others a Pi is like a super smart microcontroller.
I'd suggest that the pi3b or even the pi0W are ideal microcontrollers. As for the Pi5 GPIO they will never toggle as fast as in previous generations due to PCIe latency. I see why RP went with the RP1 in order to not have to purchase new IP with every process change, however I prefer on SoC logic blocks for GPIO, I2C, SPI, etc... Case in point, the Pi5 is nearly useless as stand-alone programmer/debugger for Pico development.
Er, what?
I can only assume you argue from a position of complete ignorance.
RP1 GPIOs are rated up to 50MHz toggle.
There's compatibility with popular protocols delivered by hardware blocks on each equivalent pin.
Why are you claiming that the architecture is invalid because of a specific inefficient use-case?
I don't see anyone claiming the Pi 5 is invalid.

From a product compatibility point of view I think it would be nice, however, if a Pi 5 worked as well as the Pi 4 when used as a Pico debugging probe.
