I found some hacks from 2015 about adding
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
config_hdmi_boost=4
but that did not work. I added the magic line and I got raspberries at the top of the screen and it started booting then claimed there was no file system like I typed the line wrong.
No root device specified. Boot arguments must include root= parameter
It tossed me to some Initramfs command prompt
If I type last I see what is in /
I removed the <CR> after that command and just made it one line and it worked!
Thank you very much kerry_s
For some reason it seems to be in 1024x768 mode. When I use the screen editor and select Layout/screens/HDMI-1/Resolution the highest resolution choice is 1024x768.
