Not sure how you are getting on. A lot of people have had trouble with the build hat myself included. it tends to not start motors at the right time and run them in the wrong direction sometimes.
i had to write the software for it from scratch to get it working on a mobile robot.
A much better way of controlling lego motors is with pybricks and technic hubs, i am using that for a robotic arm myself and it works great.
