Didn't think the USB3 socket had a "little plastic tang/key thing". Mine doesn't have anything to hold the USB's in only friction. The Ethernet cable does and that would simply require a new cable.
Would really urge against trying to remove any sockets from any Pi. It is a very specialised process needing specialised kit. Even then you risk stuffing the board either mechanically or electrostatically.
Am I missing something?
