I've been using Roku SoundBridge Network Music Players for years. Roku stopped making them in 2008. They are barely usable as media players these days*, but they have three important features:
--
*: they only support old very insecure wifi, so I use them wired. The ancient Coldfire SoCs can barely keep up with a moderately-sized music library. The once-beautiful VFDs are fading to invisibility. Also, each one eats a wall-wart PSU every 3-4 years
- a display you can read across the other side of the room;
- an IR remote;
- a way of connecting to a music server.
