Thank you for your work @konsta! I upgraded from os 20 as I was not able to run Kodi app without it crashing in the middle of watching something. I saw reference to egl bad errors in the log and my research led me to the fact that mesa 24 open gl was likely the problem. When I saw this version addressed mesa 24 I thought maybe it was resolved but unfortunately not. I still get the same crashes and since apps isn't available yet I worked around that to test things out. With the exception that Android home crashes and hangs constantly everything else seems to work well.

I do prefer the tablet view and ui interaction but wondered if that will revert back to how the ui looked in os 20 or if this new look is here to stay?

Running on Pi5 using latest Kodi
Android home screen most definitely shouldn't be crashing and hanging constantly so something wrong at your end. Please follow the installation instructions. General advice is to use proper sdcard (at least class 10) and power source (3A in case of Pi 4 and Pi 5 has even more requirements for the power source). Impossible to say without seeing any logs in any case.

You can't "update" between tablet UI and Android TV releases (requires performing a factory reset). There's little to none UI changes between Android 13 and 14 (i.e. LineageOS 20 and 21), they look almost identical.
Ok I'm not sure what happened but I was running LineagoOS20 Android TV on Pi5. I downloaded the LineagoOS21 Android TV for PI5 OTA.zip and upgraded, It booted and showed it was running in tablet mode. I previously updated my old tablet to use LineageOS so I'm familiar with it's UI and was different than what I saw in OS20. The Android tablet interface is what I saw when LineageOS21 booted up and it kept crashing saying that Android Home wasn't responding. All of my apps were installed from the Lineage20 so I was able to swap to another app and allow it to run as the Home app. Gapps is the only one that is no longer available, which I believe is because it requires a different version which hasn't been provided yet, which I understand.

I will perform a refresh install on another card and see if I have the same results. Thanks for the response!
