Agree with @thagrol. I'm firmly in the X11 camp for the foreseeable future. Old dog (me! don't know about thagrol), etc etc.
That said, it would be interesting to see some real-world performance data using a) X11 and b) wayland/waypipe/etc on some real-world things that many of us use this model for, including for example: terminal window scrolling, using a browser, etc. Actually, those two would be great for a start.
Useful measures could include: elapsed time, server (where the apps is being displayed) resource usage, client (where the app is actually running) resource usage, network traffic, etc.
