Thanks for the answer! And sorry that you lost it the first time :-(

I can use a IRLZ44N or IRL540N, which are closer to FQP30N06L, but I have the mysterious (for a newbie like me) case that I can control the LED but I can't get the LED strip to fully turn off (I tripled check that I'm connecting the Source to the ground, as mentioned in that schematic). I can only make the IRFP460 work to my wishes (well, except when exploding raspberries :) ). The LED strip outputs 42mA and 18V where I would put the mosfet. But that's another issue, I think...

Would it be crazy to add those resistors and just try again with another LED strip?
