Wasn't anything official. Just speculation I saw on Reddit and a couple forums since some of the hardware for m.2 is part of the Pi 500. The idea is they wouldn't have used that design if they didn't mean to implement it one day. That's too bad. Kind of regretting buying the Pi 500 instead of waiting for the Pro version I hear is inventible that will add m.2 and PoE. I am mostly concerned of the dependability of the micro SD over the long term. What are the pros/cons changing the OS from SD to USB? Is performance better?
Where did you hear that? Was it an official RPL announcement (I doubt it)?
If you absolutely must have NVMe buy a Pi5, an NVMe HAT+, and an official keyboard. Or, as already mentioned (twice) get an NVMe/USB adapter.
Given the bandwidth limitations of the single PCIe lane USB 3 won't be that much slower.
