I don't think you've said exactly which Arducam camera you're testing, but some of them have fixed IR filters embedded in the lens housing. If you've got one of those then the IR lighting is being effectively blocked out by the filter, so is never going to compare well with a camera where the filter is switchable from day to night modes.
(I'm using one of their early IMX462 modules, which used the separate Pivariety board, but using it direct, as 6by9 describes, with the board removed and using the standard driver. Also have removed the original lens support housing and replaced it with a C-mount and switchable IR filter for day/ IR illuminated night use).
If 4k video is a goal then maybe looking around for a supported IMX415 module, or for improved sensitivity, a supported module based on a Starvis 2 sensor may be the way to go.
