Such is the greatness of Open Source! Don't like it? Choose something else! Don't quite like it? Modify it to your needs, or pay/encourage someone to change it. Or wrap it up in a helper script that does just what you want.This is sort of a rant, but there are also a few questions. Anyway, I really LIKE the concept of the IM programs, but like many Linux programs, they really go out of their way to be hard to use. They seem to have a million options that you will never use with the few that you actually need to know, lost in the chatter.
Or upskill yourself so that you understand what is going on. This could be as straightforward as reading the manual.
