Nope. It works fine with the same SSD card on one of my 8GB RPi 5s. It might be because of different brand PCIe hats, but both work with my RPi OS & both are NVMe's. I'm going to try a different SSD card tonight. I can boot Kali directly from a microSD, but I prefer running without the microSDs, they wear out too soon (the SSDs have 10 times the mean time to failure), though I do have one RPi 5 where I have the OS on a microSD with the Home directory moved over to my SSD. That way, I can reburn a microSD or replace it & not lose any data accumulated on it.That will tell you if it's a strictly Kali problem (which I suspect it is).
