Pi3 should be able to output WUXGA (that's a standard resolution btw.).
Revert all changes made.
I need to test again, but I was seeing an 'issue' on Pi3 - when testing with CM3 - were I could not apply certain configurations although the HW is capable of - see viewtopic.php?p=2296815&hilit=failed+to ... n#p2296815
Did not further investigate in that though, but maybe need to try again on latest kernel.
