Some more info on the critical software would likely help too:
FWIW, I'm concerned that this may not be quite what it seems and instead is an attempt to get something (possibly paid for) running on unauthorised hardware.
- What is it?
- Commercial, open source, both, neither?
- Compiled (e.g C/C++) or interpreted (e.g. python)?
- Why you can't or won't contact its author.
- In what ways does "it just fail"?
- Under what circumstances does it fail? (when run from a logged in session, from systemd, from sysv init, from cron, from rc.local, ...)
- What errors are showing in the system logs? Or the application logs?
- Does it run on any zero2 marked board or just on one? If just one that suggests the software is tied to that board in some way (e.g. serial number, MAC address, something in the OTP, some piece of additional hardware, ...)
- Same SD card or not?
- If not:
- Cloned or not?
- If not, are they the same base OS with the same packages installed? Same config,txt and cmdline.txt?
- If cloned, how? Using which tools?
FWIW, I'm concerned that this may not be quite what it seems and instead is an attempt to get something (possibly paid for) running on unauthorised hardware.
