If i am not mistaken, that particular line is obsolete for RPI5. It only works for RPI4. I have recently also modified my eeprom config without issues. If even after a recovery of the bootlader you are not seeing the boot screen, try swapping the power source/cable. I mean even if you have nothing connected for boot, Pi should show you the boot screen indicating that there is nothing to boot from, asking you if you want network installation. If you see nothing on the screen, it is either a power issue, or something catastrophic has happened. Is it possible that you shorted something?
