Raspberry Pi Connect • Re: Could I get in trouble for porting Raspberry Pi Connect to other distros/devices?

Hello all. I've just discovered this amazing piece of software, and found that it was only available for Raspberry Pi OS (and as such, only Raspberry Pi hardware). My question here is, if I was able to port it to other distros, would I get in trouble for doing that? What about other distros, but running on my own servers? Or even a ported Pi OS, on my own non-pi hardware?
The software that runs on client computers shouldn't be a problem, given it is licenced with a permissive licence. If your port of the software accesses Raspberry Pi's Connect servers then this may be a problem - you would be best speaking to Raspberry Pi directly if you actually intend to do this.

As far as porting Raspberry Pi OS goes, most of the work has already been done for you, since the majority of the OS is either standard Debian packages or, in the case of the 32-bit version, a port of Debian to the ARMv6 architecture used by the BCM2835 SoC (used on the Pi 1 and Zero), which is done by the Raspbian project (not Raspberry Pi themselves). There is also a sort of x86 version of Raspberry Pi OS called Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and Mac, which runs on Intel and AMD processors (aka PCs): this is a customised version of Debian with Raspberry Pi's desktop added in, but without any custom kernel. (Raspberry Pi OS uses a custom kernel, rather than any of the kernels provided by Debian).
