There's some room, don't think I can get a second 18650 power pack, but 1 or 2 small boards should fit.If there's room in the case ... You need room in the case for the expander wand the wires from it to buttons and LEDs.
Can you expand on the idea? I'm not understanding from googling "I2C to a GPIO expander"
