It hasn't changed.
I say it has been changed because the password I changed it to be a 2-character password but when I get permission denied and try to re-flash, I boot up Pi Imager and the password is greater than 2 characters.
Ignore the number of "*"s shown in the Imager menu. It just fills the password box with a fixed number. It doesn't want to give away the length of your password.
