Using Raspberry Pi Connect v2.6.0 to reach a RPi 4 running Trixie, v13.1 and connecting via Screen Sharing - keyboard entries were not registered. This problem was experienced with two RPi 4.
For example, clicking on the Terminal icon, to open a Terminal window, the screen cursor appeared as an open rectangle, instead of the expected solid grey rectangle - and any keyboard entries failed to appear on the screen.
Also on the Desktop screen the "mute volume" graphic beneath the "Volume" plugin in the panel/system tray (upper right corner) appeared continously, and clicking in the associated checkbox did not make it disappear.
The keyboard function was restored by:
- Right-clicking in the panel/system tray
- Selecting the option "Add/Remove Plugins"
- Removing the "Volume" plugin from the Right Side
- Clicking OK to close this window
- Rebooting the Raspberry Pi
It appeared there was a plugin conflict, where the Volume plugin was somehow capturing or blocking keyboard events before they could reach other applications in the Wayland session.
