In my experience one shouldn't need to, but it depends on the router and its defaults. Good routers will 'allow only' and 'allow except' options so it is worth checking.Should you set the pico w's mac address in your router?
If a MAC address needs to be specified for a redirected port rather than just the IP and port being redirected to, it means you can't simply replace a network card, can't swap one server with another, to deliver the same service without having to update the router for its new MAC address.
That would be an inconvenience for the user but would be an additional security mechanism.
