Pi400 Kits are real bargains these days https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-400/ (at my preferred official reseller it's 90Eur for the kit compared to 105Eur for a bare Pi4 4GB).
for dealing with external electronics I'd suggest Pi Pico https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/ra ... pi-pico-2/ or - as said already - Pi Zero W (because they are more affordable and blowing them up is not such a big loss compared to Pi5 i.e.).
there is the 1GB Pi5 version which is also more affordable and sufficient for most of what OP want's to do (i.e. when a DSI Display is needed for 'home automation')
