I do not know Pi5 well enough, but I see that as biggest hurdle. I have some other SBC here with a switch to set 1 USB3 connector to OTG. Never used it, but it sounds tempting to try it and see what it could do. I assume/hope that there is USB2 as 4 pins on your motherboard.
Pi5 has the same USB gadget stuff that the 4B (and other models) has. At the same speeds - USB 2 only and with no way to detect whether it should be in host or device mode.
