But sorry, why do I have to read the technical data sheet of the bridge if I don't want to use it? I simply want to use a dumb display, without initialization, and set the CPU to drive DSI signals according to the vc4-kms-dsi-generic overlay. Why on earth can't I do this?
.. because the bridge chip needs to be initialized. Do you have the full data sheet of the bridge - which is under NDA AFIK?

I looked at the post you mentioned. First of all, thank you very much. It actually covers exactly what I'm trying to do too. But is it possible that I necessarily have to recompile the kernel? There is no official version, not even PI 5, that already has the drivers to control the ICN6211 chip inside?
