The total throughput of the Ryzen 5800X3D is greater when using only one thread per core. Note that I didn't disable SMT in the BIOS but instead set processor affinity so pirace used only half the available hardware threads. An additional speed increase may be possible by completely turning off symmetric multi-threading.While the cache performance looks good, I found it surprising how much faster one system was than the other. The same motherboard, power supply, RAM, fans, GPU, BIOS version, operating system images and pirace executables were used in each case. While admittedly the slower system is racked above the faster one and heat rises, my suspicions are the differences are due to dynamic boosting and variations in the CPU silicon itself.
In this case the performance difference between the two identically configured systems is even more noticeable. I suggested the discrepancy might be fixed by adding more thermal paste to the CPU heat sink, but the dog developer claims that would only slow down the faster processor. I think Fido is too lazy to try.
