I am aware of the challenge to use the network at work to allow these office displays to work and show current status of the employees.
I believe there is some tunnelling and VPN solutions that I can use to make this as smooth as possible, but data traffic on the office network is most likely inevitable.
I am hoping to restrict the access on the WiFi network at work to just one band (2.4 GHz) and keep the transmission of data stream as low as possible.
The use of sockets to get messages back and forth between the clients and server seems to be no issue. The challenge will be to make a user friendly GUI for the end user, by connecting to some sort of a web potal and choose between "Home sick", "Vacation", "Out of office", "Business travel" and that kind of stuff, and get that info relayed via the Raspberry PI server unit to the office display of each of the employees.
In my specific unit we are only 4 emplyoees, but we are some kind of special people - and we need special office name tag signs by our doors![:D]( "Very Happy")
