I just had the same thing happen to me with Raspberry Pi5 Bookworm after downloading updates.
What was causing the problem was not obvious being as I could not log in. I took the Micro SD card out and
placed it into another Raspberry PI 5 (with SSD storage). Then I did a checked the file storage and I had 0 bytes of free
space after the update. I deleted some Music files and now it works just fine. PS the Ctrl-Alt-F2 entering text mode helped.
Because the first thing I did was try to update the system, it stated I did not have enough free space. Looks Like I have to put in a 64Gb SD card
in this system.
