That is a real muddle of a guide!
The LCD Show code they use is GUI only (and I do not think it works with Wayland - X11 only).
The touch is not mentioned BUT a note that it has a USB port on it - if you connect that to the Pi do you get anything in lsusb that could be the touch controller?

Have you tried the generic contact address?
Could you still return it as not suitable for use and get one with support?
