Prior to embarking on this upgrade (remote upgrade at that) journey, I did go a backup:
1. Saved the image of the sd card (using dd).
2. Also backed up /etc/ (excluding pi-hole config).
3. Backed up pi-hole from its own gui.
Figured the above insurance will get me out of a pickle if I found myself in.
So far, the upgrade has gone sort of okay with a couple of hiccups. First, lost remote connection due to a bug in dhcpcd that flooded the logs with "inform" message so had to replace "inform" with "static" but that messed up the pi's ip. Had to go to the device to fix that to use "request" instead of "inform". Second, having this problem with jdk 11 and something to do with its ca certificates that I am trying to resolve (installed jdk 10 seems to have worked). But after the full upgrade to buster, rest of the stuff is working fine.
