Looks okay and at £10 I'd buy that.
It is possible to do what you want with just sockets, wires and a couple of resistors, but it won't be spec compliant, it won't necessarily work with all MIDI devices, and isn't really appropriate in most cases.
There are MIDI spec compliant IN-THRU-OUT boards with optos, buffers and sockets which may be cheaper but you would have to wire that to the Pico. Having something a Pico just plugs into will save a whole lot of aggravation and I would say worth the cost.
