Your main router is the "boss" of your entire network. It's the device that hands out IP addresses and tells every other device (your phone, TV, even the bridge router) where to look for the internet. This is done via something called DHCP.
By connecting the Pi-hole to the main router and then telling that router to use the Pi-hole for DNS, you ensure that every single device on your network, no matter which router it's connected to, will have its ads blocked automatically. You set it up once in the right place, and it covers the whole house.
If you were to connect it to the bridge router, only the devices connected to that specific router would get ad-blocking, and the setup is usually more complicated.
So, the simple path is:
- Plug the Pi into your main router.
- Configure your main router's DHCP settings to point its DNS to the Pi-hole's IP address.
Do that, and you'll be golden. Good luck
