I’ve done similar things with old hubs too. That “home cloud system” you mentioned with the Orange Pi Zero inside sounds interesting. Do you happen to remember what brand or product it was? I’d love to look it up.
On a related note, I’ve been testing a new local smart home OS called CUBE OS, released by eWeLink. I’ve been running it on my Raspberry Pi 4, and so far it’s been solid — lightweight, web-based, and supports Matter + Zigbee bridging out of the box. Pretty handy for integrating older devices into Apple or Google ecosystems without needing the cloud.
