Indeed. And I've also seen them called gertvga666 too.
Anywho...
I've just recalled two more possibilities but have no idea how well they'd perform:
- A USB Displaylink (not displayport) adapter using v1 of their protocol (v2 is difficult or impossible to get working under Linux) which you'll probably only find secondhand.
- A Pi zero running one half of linked to the 3B via USB running the other half. I've a feeling that's not bundled into/with the kernel but I'm not certain about that.
