For VGA it's possible to buy/make an inexpensive adapter but it uses all of your GPIO pins. Google gertvga for more.

Indeed. And I've also seen them called gertvga666 too.

Anywho...

I've just recalled two more possibilities but have no idea how well they'd perform:
  • A USB Displaylink (not displayport) adapter using v1 of their protocol (v2 is difficult or impossible to get working under Linux) which you'll probably only find secondhand.
  • A Pi zero running one half of linked to the 3B via USB running the other half. I've a feeling that's not bundled into/with the kernel but I'm not certain about that.
Not sure whether either of those will transfer audio.
