HATs and other add-ons • Confusion about EEPROM and HAT

So, I have a M.2 NVME HAT and there's a lot of confusing information out there. Do HATs have EEPROM separate from RPi's? Do I need to update the HAT's EEPROM separately from the RPi's EEPROM? If so, how?

I ran this command and it found an update, but does it cover the HAT?
