The standard isn't specific, it allows a range of values, the Pi5 outputs a maximum of 1.6A combined across its USB outputs, this is conformant to USB specs but is below the maximum.Shouldn't the power usage of modern USB-SSDs be within the limits of USB 3 standard?
If every device with USB3 sockets had to be able to provide 5V@5A there are a lot of devices that would no longer exist and if forced to use USB2 would be a lot slower. Its only recent that 5V@5A power supplies became readily available (which could be attributed to RaspberryPi pushing the market).
