I'm not sure how to do this. Could you point me at some documentation somewhere please. I've powered up without an SD card before but got the same blank screen. Maybe it was a bootloader problem.
Easiest is to use the imager tool. See here.

Thanks Dom,

I've got the latest bootloader:

Code:

BOOTLOADER: up to date CURRENT: Mon Jan 22 10:41:21 UTC 2024 (1705920081) LATEST: Mon Jan 22 10:41:21 UTC 2024 (1705920081) RELEASE: latest (/lib/firmware/raspberrypi/bootloader-2711/latest) Use raspi-config to change the release. VL805_FW: Using bootloader EEPROM VL805: version unknown. Try sudo rpi-eeprom-update CURRENT: LATEST:
But unfortunately I still get a blank screen. I've used two hdmi cables. One is the cable I used with the pi3B with an adapter (which could also be dodgy) and the other is the new hdmi to hdmi-mini cable I was using before.

The next step is to find some way to test the cables.
